Sony's Latest Patents: AI-Powered Predictions and a DualSense Gun Attachment
Sony has filed two intriguing patents aimed at enhancing the gaming experience. These innovations focus on AI-driven lag reduction and a more immersive gunplay experience.
AI Predicts Your Moves to Minimize Lag

A newly patented system, "Timed Input/Action Release," utilizes a camera to monitor the player and controller. AI, specifically a machine learning model, analyzes this footage to anticipate the player's next inputs. Alternatively, the system could interpret "incomplete controller actions" to infer player intent. This predictive technology aims to reduce lag in online games by preemptively processing inputs.
Enhanced Gunplay with a DualSense Trigger Attachment

Another patent details a trigger attachment for the DualSense controller designed to heighten the realism of in-game gunfights. Players would hold the controller sideways, mimicking a gun's grip, with the R1 and R2 buttons serving as the sights. Pulling the trigger simulates firing a weapon. The patent suggests compatibility with other devices, including the PSVR2.

While Sony holds a vast patent portfolio (78% of its 95,533 patents are currently active), it's important to remember that patent filings don't guarantee product release. Only time will reveal if these innovative concepts will become reality. Previous Sony patents explored adaptive difficulty, a DualSense controller with integrated earbud charging, and a temperature-sensitive controller for heightened realism.
