The audio quality is impeccable, whether you're enjoying intricate classical music or the soundtrack of an action-packed movie—these headphones deliver it all."
The previous generation, the Sony XM4, was already an outstanding headphone, but the XM5 introduces key improvements in noise cancellation and comfort. The XM5 is equipped with a second processor and double the number of microphones dedicated to filtering out ambient noise. The earcups have been redesigned to fit more snugly on the ear, creating a better seal and, as a result, more effective passive noise isolation. The noise cancellation is noticeably superior to that of the XM4 and virtually any other noise-canceling headset in its price range.
The Sony WH-1000XM5 also features a sleeker redesign with a new style of headband adjustment. The band is wider than before, improving weight distribution, and the earcup padding is now made of a luxurious synthetic leather material that's softer and more comfortable. You can wear these headphones for hours without discomfort. One minor drawback, however, is that the XM5 can no longer be folded inward, only swiveled, making it less compact.
