Sony has recently shared an update regarding the beloved classic PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4 limited-time console themes for the PS5, along with news about future themes. In a tweet, Sony announced that these nostalgic themes will be departing the PS5 on January 31, 2025. However, fans can rejoice as Sony confirmed that these themes will make a comeback in the future, promising more opportunities to relive the classic boot-up sounds and visuals of past PlayStation consoles.
“Thank you for the fantastic response to the classic PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4 limited-time console themes, which will be leaving tomorrow,” Sony stated. “Due to the positive response on these 4 themes, we’re doing some work behind the scenes to bring these special designs back in the months ahead.”

While this is exciting news, Sony also shared some disappointing news in a follow-up tweet. They stated that there are no plans to release additional themes beyond the current lineup. “While there aren’t plans to create additional themes in the future, we're excited to keep celebrating legacy PlayStation hardware with you all,” the company mentioned.
This announcement has led to some disappointment among fans who hoped for more customization options on the PS5, a feature that was available on previous PlayStation consoles. Sony has yet to implement themes on the PS5, and according to their recent statement, it appears unlikely for this console generation.
The nostalgia themes, introduced to celebrate the 30th anniversary of PlayStation on December 3, 2024, allowed PS5 users to personalize their home screen and menus with elements from the PSOne, PS2, PS3, and PS4. The PSOne theme features the iconic console on the home screen background, the PS2 theme includes its distinctive menu shapes, the PS3 theme brings its wave background, and the PS4 theme showcases similar wave patterns. Each theme also includes the sound effects associated with each console, enhancing the nostalgic experience for users.
