Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds New Features and Mechanics Revealed
Largest Roster From The Series Ever

Sega and the Sonic Team are gearing up to deliver what could be the largest roster in the Sonic Racing series yet. In an exciting reveal on PlayStation.blog on February 12, 2025, Sega of America's Associate PR Manager, Thalia Piedra, unveiled the new mechanics and features of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.
The game is set to feature "iconic characters from the Sonic and Sega universes," although the trailer has only showcased characters from the Sonic franchise so far. The official website confirms a launch roster of 23 characters, with more to be added post-launch. From the trailer, fans can spot mainstays like Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, and Amy, as well as characters from Sonic Riders such as Jet, Wave, and Storm. Other notable appearances include Zavok and Zazz from the Deadly Six, Team Dark's Shadow, Rouge, and E-123 Omega, Dr. Eggman with Egg Pawn and Metal Sonic, the Chaotix trio of Vector, Charmy, and Espio, and the likes of Blaze, Silver, Cream, and Big.
Travel Rings Will Transport Characters To Different CrossWorlds

One of the standout features of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is the innovative use of Travel Rings. These rings allow characters to be transported to different worlds in real-time during races, introducing players to diverse sceneries and environments known as CrossWorlds. Thalia Piedra explained that these rings will "bring dramatic changes to races, transporting players from one world to a completely new location." Each CrossWorld will offer a theme park-like experience filled with surprises, including large monsters, engaging obstacles, and tracks filled with stunning scenery.
The game also introduces dynamic tracks, inspired by past titles like Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, ensuring that each race offers a unique and transformative experience. With 24 main tracks and 15 CrossWorlds, players will have plenty of variety to explore.
Customization, Extreme Gear, Gadgets, and More!
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds boasts the most extensive vehicle customization seen in the series to date. A sneak peek shared on Twitter (X) on February 17, 2025, showcased various customization options, including changes to the front and rear parts of the vehicle, wheels, deep color customization of the body, tires, cockpit, and overall glow.
Additionally, players can equip their characters with Gadgets to tailor their play style, choosing from 23 different power-up items. The game will also feature 45 unique original vehicles, including the return of Extreme Gear from Sonic Riders, offering a boost-based racing style. Sonic Creative Officer Takashi Iizuka highlighted that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is "a great culmination of all the Sonic Racing series games to date."
