Japan's "Sleep Fighter" SF6 Tournament: Sleep Well, Play Well
This Capcom-endorsed tournament, organized by SS Pharmaceuticals to promote their sleep aid Drewell, introduces a novel scoring system.
Teams of three compete in best-of-three matches, earning points for wins and "Sleep Points" based on sleep logged the week prior. The minimum sleep requirement is six hours per night per player (126 total hours). Teams falling short lose five points per deficient hour. The team with the most cumulative sleep time gets to choose the tournament's match conditions.
This initiative, under the slogan "Let's Do the Challenge, Let's Sleep First," highlights the importance of sleep for peak performance. The Sleep Fighter tournament is reportedly the first esports event to penalize sleep deprivation.
The event takes place August 31st at Ryogoku KFC Hall in Tokyo. Limited in-person attendance (100 via lottery) is available, with live streaming on YouTube and Twitch for global audiences. Further broadcast details will be announced on the official website and Twitter (X) account.
The tournament features a roster of prominent professional players and streamers, including two-time EVO champion "Itazan" Itabashi Zangief and top SF player Dogura, promising a compelling blend of competitive gaming and sleep wellness advocacy.
