SNK Games, the acclaimed Japanese developer behind legendary fighting franchises, has quietly withdrawn several flagship titles from Google Play. While disappearing from Android's marketplace, these games remain accessible on alternative platforms like Apple's App Store.
With a storied history spanning arcades and consoles, SNK has gifted gamers timeless classics such as The King of Fighters and Metal Slug series. Regrettably, Android enthusiasts must now bid farewell to a significant portion of these nostalgic gems.
Which SNK Classics Are Exiting Google Play?
Effective June 30, 2025, SNK purged multiple fan-favorite titles from Google Play. The delisted catalog features iconic fighters including Fatal Fury Special, Garou: Mark of the Wolves, along with perennial favorites The King of Fighters '97 and '98, plus Samurai Shodown 2.
The purge also claimed beloved run-and-gun titles and shooters. Blazing Star and multiple Metal Slug iterations (Metal Slug, Metal Slug 2, and Metal Slug X) vanished alongside their fighting counterparts.
Notably, Metal Slug 3 departed earlier on June 2, 2025, citing compatibility challenges with modern Android hardware and software. Originally launched for Android in July 2012, its technical limitations ultimately sealed its fate.
Existing owners retain access to downloaded copies, though new installations or device transfers become impossible following removal.
What Prompted This Digital Purge?
SNK's rationale remains partially obscured, particularly as the studio simultaneously develops fresh Android adaptations. The roadmap hints at revitalized classics with contemporary gameplay enhancements.
Looking forward, fighting game enthusiasts can anticipate Ken Masters from Street Fighter making an early debut during Evo 2025 festivities.
For Android loyalists, select SNK collaborations like Metal Slug x ACA NeoGeo remain available on Google Play. These strategic partnerships continue bridging gaming eras.
