Ubisoft is setting sail to make Skull and Bones Year 2 the most thrilling yet for fans of this pirate multiplayer game. They're planning to enrich the gameplay with a host of exciting additions, including new game modes, ships, a legendary Kraken encounter, and the much-anticipated feature of land combat, which players have been eagerly requesting since the game's launch.
During a special Year 2 showcase that debuted yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled their treasure trove of plans for the upcoming year. The highlight of the presentation was undoubtedly Season 3: Guts and Glory, slated for this fall, which will introduce the long-awaited land combat feature. Players can look forward to engaging in swordfights and gun battles on land, a significant shift from the sea-based action that has defined the game so far. This feature is part of the Rogue Warlord additions, where players will venture onto sandy beaches and into damp caves to rescue skilled crew members known as Officers. A teaser video offered a glimpse into what to expect, though full details will be revealed later this year.
While land combat is the star attraction of Skull and Bones Year 2, Ubisoft's roadmap for 2025 is packed with other engaging updates. Season 1: Ascent into Chaos, which launches today, April 15, introduces an item ascension feature to enhance loot, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the Death Tides PvP mode, where teams can battle it out. Following in the summer of 2025, Season 2: Oaths of War will bring Megaforts and the imposing Frigate large ships into the fray. Finally, Season 4: Eye of the Beast, scheduled for this winter, will feature the fearsome Kraken, the Hunter’s Guild, and the Corvette large ship.
If these updates have piqued your interest, you're in luck—Skull and Bones is hosting a free weekend from April 17 to 21. This is the perfect opportunity for players to experience the pirate PvP action firsthand and even purchase the game at a discounted rate, though the exact discount hasn't been announced yet.
Skull and Bones set sail on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, earning a solid 7/10 in our review. Although Ubisoft has kept official sales figures under wraps, they did mention achieving "record player engagement" shortly after its release. Interestingly, the launch of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% surge in players for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, showing the enduring appeal of pirate-themed games.
