Shrek 5 has unveiled its all-new cast with a brand-new teaser trailer, sparking a range of reactions, including from an unlikely critic: Movie Sonic, who's unsure what to make of Shrek's new look.
In a playful video posted on TikTok, the Sonic Movie account offered "advice for green ogres," humorously comparing Movie Sonic's transformation from his initial, much-criticized live-action design to the well-received revised version.

IGN had the exclusive first look at the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie back in 2018, which received mixed feedback, with fans critiquing the character's teeth, physique, tiny eyes, and human-like fingers.
Responding to the backlash, director Jeff Fowler decided to change the controversial design of the iconic character, promising a more authentic look. The redesign was much better received.
While the feedback on Shrek's new look isn't as divisive as Sonic's initial live-action appearance, Sonic's witty response has certainly entertained fans.
"You know it's bad when you see the Sonic Movie account giving Shrek 5 advice," remarked one commenter, while another expressed disbelief, saying, "No way they actually posted this" followed by a crying emoji.
The fifth Shrek movie was first announced in 2016 but went silent for years until Chris Meledandri, CEO of animation studio Illumination, announced its active development in 2023, alongside plans for a Donkey spin-off. Universal Pictures has delayed Shrek 5's release to December 23, 2026, shifting Minions 3, a spin-off of Despicable 3, into its former slot.
