Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy S25 Edge at its May Unpacked event, presenting its latest top-end smartphone. While it shares many similarities with the earlier 2025 release, the Galaxy S25, the S25 Edge boasts a sleeker design that truly gives it an edge.
In terms of specifications, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge closely mirrors the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. Both models are powered by the same Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and feature a formidable 200MP camera. The standout feature of the S25 Edge, however, is its significantly thinner chassis, measuring just 5.8mm compared to the 8.2mm of the S25 Ultra. This slimmer profile also results in a lighter weight of only 163g.
Despite its reduced thickness, the S25 Edge retains the same impressive 6.7-inch AMOLED 2X display as the Galaxy S25, closely matching the specs of the slightly larger 6.9-inch display found on the S25 Ultra.
Given its thin and expansive design, durability is a critical consideration for the Galaxy S25 Edge. Samsung addresses this concern by incorporating the new Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, which is touted to be more durable than the Gorilla Glass Armor 2 used in the S25 Ultra. While this upgrade aims to enhance drop resistance, the real test will be the phone's resilience when subjected to everyday pressures, such as being sat on in a pocket. The industry is keenly watching to see if this can avoid a repeat of the infamous "bendgate" scenario.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge also inherits the suite of "Mobile AI" tools that were introduced with the Samsung Galaxy S24 and further refined in 2025. Thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Elite, many AI tasks can be processed locally on the device, enhancing privacy. However, some AI applications will still depend on cloud services. Samsung's innovative features, such as summarizing notifications and news articles at a glance, add a layer of convenience for users.
Preorders for the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge are now open, with the 256GB model starting at $1,099 and the 512GB model at $1,219. The phone is available in three striking color options: Titanium Silver, Titanium Jet Black, and Titanium Icyblue.
Samsung is placing a strong emphasis on the durability of this sleek device. Let's hope their confidence in its resilience is well-founded.
