Ryan Reynolds has revealed that he proposed an R-rated Star Wars project to Disney, though it remains uncertain whether it will ever be developed.
The Deadpool star discussed some of his non-Marvel projects in an interview on The Box Office Podcast. While he didn't specify whether Disney accepted the pitch or if it would be a film or series, Reynolds did share insights into his vision for such a venture.
"I pitched to Disney, suggesting, 'Why not create an R-rated Star Wars property?'" Reynolds explained. "It doesn't need to focus on major characters—there are many characters to choose from. An R-rating doesn't mean it has to be vulgar. For me, an R-rating is a vehicle for genuine emotion. I’ve always wondered why studios hesitate to take chances on something like that."

Reynolds has a strong track record with R-rated films. He played a key role in three of the top five highest-grossing R-rated movies ever: Deadpool, Deadpool 2, and Deadpool & Wolverine. The latest collaboration with Hugh Jackman became the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, earning over $1.3 billion (according to Box Office Mojo).
Whether this success would translate to an R-rated Star Wars film or series is unclear, but Reynolds confirms the idea is on his mind. However, he doesn't see himself starring in it.
"I’m not saying I would want to be in it; that would be a bad fit," Reynolds added. "I would prefer to produce, write, or work behind the scenes. Franchises like Star Wars thrive on scarcity and surprise. While scarcity may be harder to achieve with Disney+, you can still deliver unexpected stories."

Meanwhile, Reynolds isn't finished with Marvel. Although he is unsure about Deadpool joining the Avengers, reports indicate he has been quietly advocating for a Deadpool and X-Men film.
As for Star Wars, it may be some time before an R-rated project materializes.
