In a livestream on April 16, Jagex, the developers behind Dragonwilds, revealed that the game is now open for early access on Steam. This came shortly after the game's first trailer was released, astonishing fans who had just added it to their Steam wishlists on April 1 and seen its first gameplay teaser on April 2. While the concept of this new survival game set in the RuneScape universe was introduced in 2022, it wasn't until late 2024 that Jagex began alpha testing signups. The game's official unveiling as RuneScape: Dragonwilds happened on March 31, 2025.
Estimated Official Release Date in Early 2026
Jagex has set their sights on an early 2026 release for Dragonwilds, emphasizing their commitment to delivering a polished and engaging experience. "Our goal is to ensure that Dragonwilds offers a complete and satisfying adventure that players will want to return to time and again," the developers stated.

Early Access Roadmap Revealed
Jagex has shared an exciting early access roadmap for Dragonwilds, outlining the planned additions and improvements. A highlight is the introduction of Fellhollow, a haunting new region caught between life and death, ruled by the formidable soul-eater dragon, Imaru. Influenced by the wild anima of Ashenfall and the cursed energy of the Underworld, players will explore this eerie landscape alongside the iconic character Death. Expect new quests, lore, gear, and music, as well as advancements in magic, ranged, and farming skills.
The game will also feature new Lesser Dragons as enemies, dragon slayer gear, a hardcore mode, and a creative mode, among other updates. While specific release dates for these features remain under wraps, Jagex promises continuous enhancements throughout the early access period.
