Relic Entertainment, the renowned developer behind Company of Heroes, is venturing into new territory with a smaller-scale turn-based strategy game titled **Earth vs. Mars**. Set to launch this Summer on PC via Steam, the game pits players against a Martian invasion, tasking them with defending Earth using an innovative tool called the Splice-O-Tron. This device allows players to create unique "bizarre and powerful creature-human hybrids," such as the Squirrel-Cow, Human-Rhino, and Cheetah-Fly, drawing inspiration from the gameplay of the classic Nintendo DS game, Advance Wars.
According to Relic, the backstory involves Martians who have been secretly visiting Earth for decades, abducting humans and animals to extract their atomic essence. Now, they've launched a full-scale invasion, and it's up to a diverse group of commanders to spearhead Earth's resistance. Players will take command of Earth's military forces, battling high-tech Martian saucers, grav-tanks, and elite alien warriors in a desperate fight for survival.

**Earth vs. Mars** offers a robust set of features, including a 30+ mission single-player campaign, online multiplayer where players can choose to play as either Earth or Mars, a VS Mode to challenge the game's AI, and a map editor for custom gameplay experiences.
Relic CEO Justin Dowdeswell expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, "We are excited to bring a Relic Twist to the Advance Wars style of gameplay, infusing some Relic DNA, while harkening back to some of our earlier titles." He also mentioned Relic's new strategy to diversify their portfolio by working on smaller Indie-style games alongside their traditional RTS titles. This approach aims to explore new sub-genres, foster creativity, and increase the frequency of game releases. Interested gamers can now wishlist **Earth vs. Mars** on Steam.
