Days Gone Remastered made a significant splash during Sony's recent State of Play showcase, but the announcement of its $10 upgrade has left some PlayStation Plus subscribers feeling disgruntled. Sony has specified that this special upgrade price is exclusively for those who own either the PlayStation 4 disc or a digital copy of Days Gone. Unfortunately, this means that players who obtained the game through the now-discontinued PS Plus Collection or the Essential monthly game in April 2021 are not eligible for the discounted upgrade. They will need to shell out the full $49.99 to enjoy the new PS5 remastered version.
The news about the $10 upgrade restriction has sparked a wave of frustration among PS Plus members, with many taking to online platforms to voice their discontent. For instance, a thread on the PlayStation Plus subreddit is brimming with comments from subscribers who expressed their willingness to pay the $10 for the upgrade but are now opting to forego the game entirely.
“They would actually have made a decent chunk of change if PS Plus players were eligible, even if most didn’t want to play it they’d at least be interested in paying 10 bucks to try it out for an hour or two,” user squarejellyfish_ remarked. Similarly, teckn9ne79 stated, “They should let Essentials upgrade cause I would pay the $10, but I will not buy it any other way. I will stick with the one I got.”
Another user, dredizzle99, voiced frustration, saying, “There's no way I'm paying full price for this, but I'd happily pay for the upgrade at least just to check it out. Surely the majority of people that have it on PS plus are thinking the same thing, so they're basically losing all the potential sales from them.”
Jackanyon95 echoed these sentiments, stating, "They gave away the game for free so every copy is an extra £10/$10 they wouldn't have had but they decided to be awkward instead and cut out half the owner base. I'm not paying full price, it didn't even need a remaster."

While some PS Plus subscribers are vocal about their disappointment, others aren't surprised by Sony's decision, suggesting that the company likely conducted financial analyses to justify this move. Despite this, Sony is facing criticism from its dedicated fanbase, who are labeling the company as "stingy" and had hoped for a more generous approach from PlayStation.
