Following its Xbox and PC release, Palworld finally arrives on PlayStation consoles, as announced during September 2024's PlayStation State of Play. However, a curious exception exists: the PS5 launch excludes Japan.
Palworld's Japanese PS5 Release Delayed Indefinitely
Palworld's PlayStation Debut
The PS5 version of Palworld launched globally, as revealed at the PlayStation State of Play event. Sony even showcased a trailer featuring Palworld characters sporting gear inspired by Horizon Forbidden West's Aloy.Despite the worldwide release, Japanese PlayStation gamers are currently unable to access the game. This delay is strongly linked to ongoing legal action.
Japan Release Date Uncertain
Palworld's Japanese Twitter (X) account confirmed the global launch, excluding Japan, stating the PS5 version released in 68 countries and regions. They apologized for the delay and announced that a Japanese release date remains undetermined. The team pledged to bring the game to Japanese PS5 players as soon as possible.
The reason for the delay is widely believed to be the ongoing patent infringement lawsuit filed by Nintendo and Pokémon against developer Pocketpair in Tokyo Court. Nintendo seeks an injunction and damages. A successful injunction could force Pocketpair to cease Palworld operations entirely, potentially leading to the game's removal.
