Last week, the gaming community was thrown into disarray when the Nintendo Switch 2 preorder date shifted from April 9 to an indefinite "who knows?" This change came after President Trump's import tariffs caused financial markets to spiral, and the ripple effects have crossed borders. Nintendo Canada has confirmed that pre-orders in Canada are also delayed, dashing hopes of securing a console through a cousin in Winnipeg.
"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025, in order to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S.," stated Nintendo of Canada to the Canadian tech site MobileSyrup.
"Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged."

This echoes the statement Nintendo of America provided to IGN on April 4, although the Canadian version omits any specific mention of new tariffs.
Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start on April 9, 2025, in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update the timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged.
While tomorrow was supposed to mark the beginning of pre-orders, there's still no clear timeline on when eager fans can start refreshing their browsers and verifying their credit card details, leaving gamers in limbo and worried about potential price hikes from the initially announced $449.99.
In other regions, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have already begun in the UK, with smaller retailers such as EE, GAME, and Smyths quickly selling out. Scalpers have jumped on the opportunity, listing pre-orders on eBay for £500 ($639) or more, a significant jump from the official retail price of £395.99 ($506).
