If you've been eagerly anticipating the reveal of Nintendo's much-speculated Switch 2, the wait has finally paid off—and the results are more impressive than many had hoped. The upgraded system brings notable enhancements, including support for up to 120fps performance and 4K resolution output when docked.
During today’s Nintendo Switch 2 Direct presentation, several key features of the new console were unveiled. One of the most noticeable changes is the larger built-in display: the Nintendo Switch 2 now boasts an 7.9-inch LCD screen with HDR support, doubling the pixel count of its predecessor to deliver a sharp 1080p resolution at up to 120 frames per second in handheld mode.
When docked, the system can output visuals at up to 4K resolution with HDR enabled—offering a significant visual upgrade for TV gameplay. The device retains the same slim profile (13.9mm thick) as the original Switch, making it just as portable while offering a richer visual experience.
The redesigned Joy-Con 2 controllers feature magnetic attachment and release via a dedicated button on the back. The SL and SR shoulder buttons have been enlarged for better ergonomics, especially when used in horizontal mode, and both analog sticks are now larger for improved control. Additionally, Nintendo officially confirmed mouse input support for the Joy-Con controllers—a surprising but welcome addition for certain game types.
Other improvements include a built-in noise-canceling microphone and 3D audio support for immersive soundscapes in compatible titles. The system also features a more robust adjustable stand that allows for multiple viewing angles, and a top-mounted USB port that supports external camera accessories or charging while in tabletop mode.
Storage capacity has seen a significant jump as well, with the Nintendo Switch 2 coming equipped with 256GB of internal storage right out of the box.
