Nexon has announced the global shutdown of KartRider: Drift, the mobile, console, and PC title launched in January 2023. The game will cease operation worldwide later this year, affecting all platforms.
Asian Servers Remain Operational
However, the good news is that the Asian versions (Taiwan and South Korea) will continue. While Nexon plans a revamp for the Asian servers, details regarding these changes and any potential global relaunch remain undisclosed.
Global Shutdown Timing
The exact date for the global shutdown is yet to be announced by Nexon. The game is currently still available on the Google Play Store, allowing players to enjoy it before its closure later this year.
Reasons Behind the Shutdown
Despite efforts to provide a smooth global experience, KartRider: Drift faced significant challenges. Player feedback highlighted frustrating automation, leading to repetitive gameplay. Further compounding the issue were technical problems such as poor optimization on some Android devices and numerous bugs. These factors ultimately led to Nexon's decision to shut down the global version and refocus their efforts on the PC versions in Korea and Taiwan, aiming for a more successful iteration.
