Attention all MultiVersus players! The game will be shutting down after its upcoming 5th Season. Dive into the details about MultiVersus Season 5 and what you can expect post-shutdown.
Warner Bros. Games Shutting Down MultiVersus
MultiVersus Season 5 Will Be Its Last Season
On January 31, 2025, MultiVersus' official Twitter (X) account made the announcement: the game will cease operations on May 30, 2025, following its fifth and final season. In a detailed blog post on MultiVersus' official website, Player First Games and Warner Bros. declared that "our next Season will serve as the final seasonal content update for the game."
MultiVersus Season 5 kicks off on February 4, 2025, and will run until May 30, 2025. This season will introduce two new characters to the roster: DC's Aquaman and Looney Tunes' Lola Bunny. According to the blog post, "All new Season 5 content, including Aquaman and Lola Bunny, will be earnable through gameplay." Once Season 5 concludes, MultiVersus will no longer be available for download on the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store.
No official reasons have been provided by MultiVersus for the decision to shut down.
Moving Forward With MultiVersus’ Offline Mode
After the end of Season 5, players can still enjoy MultiVersus offline through a local gameplay mode. You can play solo against A.I. opponents or with up to three friends. To access this feature, you must download the latest version of MultiVersus during Season 5, from February 4 at 9 AM PST until May 30 at 9 AM PDT.
Upon logging in, the game will automatically generate a local save file linked to your PlayStation Network, Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store account. This allows you to continue playing MultiVersus offline with all your earned and purchased content.
As of January 31, 2025, MultiVersus has ceased real money transactions. Gleamium, the game's premium currency, is no longer purchasable in the online store. However, players with existing Gleamium can use it to access in-game content until the end of Season 5.
MultiVersus First Opened Public Beta In 2022
MultiVersus debuted its public beta in July 2022, offering a free-to-play fighting game experience reminiscent of Super Smash Bros., yet unique with its 2v2 team-based format. From July 2022 to June 2023, the open public beta saw multiple updates and two seasons' worth of content. The game was relaunched in May 2024 with new characters, rollback netcode, a new PvE mode, new currencies, and more enhancements.
Despite these updates, the relaunch did not meet fan expectations due to persistent technical issues, frequent disconnections, and dissatisfaction with the game's microtransactions. By July 2024, MultiVersus reported a 70% drop in player count on PS4 and PS5.
MultiVersus will officially shut down on May 30 at 9 AM PDT, featuring a total of 35 playable characters from various franchises. Player First Games and Warner Bros. expressed their gratitude, stating, "We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey."
You can download MultiVersus on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC until May 30, 2025.
