Monster Hunter Wilds' player base has seen a significant decline, bringing it closer to MH World's numbers. Read on to discover more about this drop and the game's first collaboration event.
Monster Hunter Wilds Sees Sharp Drop in Player Numbers
From Over One Million to 40,000

Monster Hunter Wilds was one of this year's most anticipated releases, quickly becoming Capcom's fastest-selling title. However, player engagement has cooled significantly since its successful launch, with concurrent player numbers dropping sharply three months post-release.
As noted by Monster Hunter content creator Zenny, MH Wilds' concurrent player count has halved since May, now approaching the levels of the older title MH World. According to SteamDB data, MH Wilds recorded a 24-hour peak of 41,101 players, nearing MH World's 26,479 at the time of writing.
For comparison, MH World maintained over 100,000 concurrent players during its third month on Steam, outperforming MH Wilds' current 40,000. Many players attribute this decline to MH Wilds' limited endgame content, despite the release of Title Update 1. The upcoming Title Update 2 this summer may revive player interest with new monsters, events, and additional content.
MH Wilds and Street Fighter Collaboration Teased
Another potential draw for returning players is a collaboration with Capcom's flagship fighting game series, Street Fighter. On May 19, Monster Hunter's official Twitter account shared an image featuring a paw print designed in Street Fighter 6's distinctive urban aesthetic.
While no official confirmation has been provided, such a collaboration would not be unexpected given the franchises' previous crossover in MH World. That event introduced Ryu and Sakura armor sets, paid DLC featuring Hadoken and Shoryuken gestures, a Chun-Li costume for the Handler, and more.

This would mark MH Wilds' first major collaboration, and fans are eagerly anticipating Capcom's approach to this crossover. The Monster Hunter series has a history of successful collaborations with various IPs, including Devil May Cry and Sonic in MH4, Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem in MH Generations Ultimate, and Assassin's Creed and Mega Man in MH World.
Despite the current downturn, many expect MH Wilds' player base to rebound with the content scheduled for the remainder of the year and beyond. Monster Hunter Wilds is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For the latest updates on Monster Hunter Wilds, check out our article below!
