Monster Hunter Wilds boasts over 1 million concurrent Steam players despite a wave of mixed reviews. Let's delve into the game's PC performance and current issues.
Monster Hunter Wilds: A Rocky Launch Despite Massive Popularity
Mixed Steam Reviews Don't Deter Players

Despite receiving mixed Steam reviews, Monster Hunter (MH) Wilds has achieved a staggering milestone: over 1 million concurrent players. SteamDB reports an all-time peak of 1,384,608 concurrent players at the time of writing. This surpasses previous entries in the series; MH World peaked at 334,684 players, and MH Rise at 231,360. However, the Steam page currently shows a mixed reception, with only 57% positive ratings out of 54,669 reviews. Many negative reviews cite poor PC optimization and performance issues.
Capcom Addresses PC Performance Concerns
Capcom has acknowledged the negative feedback regarding MH Wilds' PC performance and is actively working on solutions. The official Monster Hunter Status account on Twitter (X) on February 28, 2025, addressed these concerns and provided links to support resources. Their suggested solutions include updating video/graphics drivers, installing the latest Windows updates, performing a clean video driver installation, and more. For persistent issues, they recommend consulting the official troubleshooting thread on the Steam community page for more detailed steps.
Game-Breaking Bug Impacts Story Progression
A critical bug is currently preventing players from progressing through the story. The crucial NPC required for Main Mission: Chapter 5-2, "A World Turned Upside Down," is not appearing, halting player advancement. Monster Hunter Status confirmed awareness of this issue on Twitter (X) on March 2, 2025, and stated they are working on a fix.
Further issues reported include the inability to unlock the "Grill a Meal" and "Ingredient Center" features, despite meeting the requirements, and problems accessing the Smithy. The developers have responded to these issues with hotfixes and updates across various platforms.
Character Customization Tied to Microtransactions

Character and Palico appearance customization in MH Wilds is partially locked behind microtransactions. The "Monster Hunter Wilds - Character Edit Voucher Three-Voucher Pack," priced at $6.00, allows players three attempts to recreate their character and is available on all digital storefronts.
While players can still adjust hair, eyebrow and facial color, makeup, and clothing, significant changes require purchasing this voucher. The same applies to Palico customization, with a separate voucher pack available. A combined character and Palico edit voucher pack is also offered for $10. Despite this, Capcom is providing a single free character edit voucher. These microtransactions were not present during the testing phase, but their inclusion was previously announced by Capcom.
Monster Hunter Wilds is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay tuned for further updates!
