Minecraft Live 2025 has concluded, and Mojang has unveiled an exciting array of new features and updates for the iconic game. The first update of the year, dubbed "Spring to Life," is set to launch on March 25. This update will breathe new life into the Overworld, enhancing the immersion of biomes with new variants of cows, pigs, and chickens, along with enchanting ambient features like the glittering firefly bush, falling leaves, and the soothing whispers of sand.
The second update, currently unnamed, will introduce the innovative Dried Ghast block. This block can be rehydrated to transform into a Ghastling, a smaller, baby version of the Ghast. With proper care, the Ghastling can evolve into a Happy Ghast. Players can then use a Ghast harness to ride this new mob, allowing up to four players to soar through the skies together.
In addition to these gameplay enhancements, Mojang has rolled out 'Vibrant Visuals,' a significant visual upgrade for Minecraft. This update, described as "the first step in expressing our developers’ vision for a visual upgrade," aims to enhance the visual experience without altering the gameplay mechanics. For a detailed look at these visual improvements, check out IGN's dedicated article and comparison video.
Mojang also teased fans with a new clip from the upcoming "A Minecraft Movie" and announced a themed in-game live event starting on March 25. This event will unfold in Midport Village, where players will join Steve and his movie companions to defend the village from piglin attacks through a series of engaging mini-games. Successful participants who complete all challenges during the event, running from March 25 to April 7, will be rewarded with the exclusive Yearn cape.
During our visit to Mojang's offices in Sweden, we learned more about the company's strategic decisions, including their stance on not developing a Minecraft 2, maintaining a paid model rather than going free-to-play, and their choice to avoid using generative AI in game development.
