Midnight Society, the game studio co-founded by popular streamer Guy 'Dr. Disrespect' Beahm, has announced its closure after three years of operation. The studio, which also included industry veterans like Robert Bowling and Quinn Delhyo from the Call of Duty and Halo franchises, has decided to shut down and cancel its highly anticipated FPS game, Deadrop.
In a post on X, Midnight Society shared the news, stating, "Today we are announcing Midnight Society will be closing its doors after three incredible years, with an amazing team of over 55 developers." The studio also reached out to the gaming community, asking if any other studios are hiring and could offer employment opportunities to its team members.

Deadrop was envisioned as a free-to-play FPS set in a unique universe where "the 80s never ended." The game's aesthetic featured characters with Daft Punk-inspired helmets, wielding an array of guns and swords. It was designed to be a PvPvE extraction shooter, promising a blend of player versus player and player versus environment gameplay. Despite targeting a 2024 release, the game missed its deadline.
Midnight Society parted ways with Beahm in 2024 following revelations that the streamer had engaged in inappropriate messaging with a minor through Twitch's Whispers feature. Despite this split, the studio continued to work on Deadrop until the decision to close was made this year.
The closure of Midnight Society adds to the growing list of studios facing challenges in the current gaming industry climate, which has also affected companies like Ubisoft, BioWare, Phoenix Labs, and many others. This period has been marked by significant layoffs and studio closures, reflecting the tough economic conditions within the sector.
