In a recent interview, Hashino expressed his desire to develop a game set during Japan's Sengoku period. He envisions this as a compelling setting for a new Japanese role-playing game, potentially drawing inspiration from the Basara series.
While there are currently no concrete plans to create a Metaphor: ReFantazio sequel, Hashino emphasized his commitment to completing the current project. He revealed that the game was originally conceived as the third major Japanese RPG series following Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, aiming to become Atlus' flagship title.
Despite earlier statements ruling out a direct sequel, the team is already working on their next project, which will almost certainly not be Metaphor: ReFantazio 2. However, an anime adaptation is under consideration. Metaphor: ReFantazio has achieved remarkable success, boasting Atlus' most successful platform launch to date.
The game has already peaked at over 85,961 concurrent players, surpassing the concurrent player counts of Persona 5 Royal (35,474) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002). Metaphor: ReFantazio is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
