If you ever doubted that *Rune Slayer* is an MMORPG, let the presence of fishing be your proof. We jest, but if you're here to master the art of fishing in *Rune Slayer*, you're in the right place. We've navigated these waters before and are ready to guide you through the process. Spoiler Alert: It's not as straightforward as it is in *Fisch*.
Before You Start Fishing in *Rune Slayer*

Before you can catch any fish, make sure to **accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman**. This white-haired NPC can be found at one of the piers near where the Baracuda swims. Simon's quest requires you to catch 5 "fish," and in return, he'll reward you with a Tackle Box (we'll explain the quotation marks later).
Here's the catch: **to fish, you'll need a fishing rod and some bait or tackle**. Conveniently, Simon the Fisherman sells these essentials.

Head over to Simon and **purchase a Wood Fishing Rod and some Worms**. Most players suggest having at least 5 worms, but we recommend buying 10 to be safe. **You can't equip the bait**, but that's okay. The Worms simply need to be in your inventory; they'll be used automatically when you catch a fish. **Each successful catch will remove one Worm from your inventory**.
Here's an important detail: **you won't catch any fish unless you have at least 5 bait items**. We tried with just one Worm and caught nothing. Once we had 5 Worms, we started reeling in aquatic life. Keep your Worms in your hotbar for easy tracking. With these items secured, you're ready for the next step.
How to Catch Fish in *Rune Slayer*

First, **select your Wood Fishing Rod**. You don't equip it; just move it to your hotbar or access it from your inventory, and your character will hold it.
**Hold M1 to cast your line into a body of water**—the pier next to Simon works well.
Keep an eye on the bobber. When you see **one or two ripples**, **click M1 again to reel in your catch**. It's that simple.
**This method isn't foolproof**. Often, you won't catch anything, and sometimes you'll reel in junk. The good news is **Simon counts junk as a catch**—that's why we used quotation marks around "fish".
So, cast your line, wait for the ripples, hit M1, and aim to catch anything five times. We caught only two fish and three Old Cups.

**Once you've caught 5 "fish", return to Simon the Fisherman to complete the quest**. He'll give you a tackle box. Open it and store your remaining worms inside to free up inventory space.
