Marvel Comics is set to relaunch its flagship Star Wars series in May 2025, marking a new chapter set after the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War. This exciting new series follows the iconic trio of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa as they endeavor to establish the New Republic and bring stability to a galaxy still reeling from conflict.
Penned by Alex Segura, who previously worked on the Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, this volume promises to be a thrilling continuation. The art will be brought to life by Star Wars veteran Phil Noto, known for his work on Star Wars: Poe Dameron. Noto and Leinil Yu will also contribute to the covers of the first issue.
Set approximately two years after the events of Return of the Jedi, Segura and Noto's Star Wars series explores the aftermath of the Battle of Jakku, the final major confrontation between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance. As the New Republic emerges as the galaxy's new governing force, Luke and his companions must navigate the challenges posed by pirates, thieves, and other opportunists looking to exploit the power vacuum.
“Now that we've put the period at the end of the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can speed ahead into a new, uncharted era, with some new galactic threats, foes, and mysteries for our beloved heroes to grapple with, blending the familiar with the new and shocking,” Segura shared with StarWars.com. “These stories will be packed with action and the character moments Star Wars fans have come to expect, featuring twists on the galaxy and landscape we know, with an eye toward making sure people can jump in easily and with any issue. We can't wait."
Noto expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying, “Alex is an amazing writer and has come up with some great storylines and new characters for this series and I’m thrilled for the opportunity to bring them to life on the page! It’s also been exciting to draw the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era because there’s no existing film or TV versions of them. I get to create new looks for them while also having reference of the actors from the 80s to help sell the look of this timeline.”
Star Wars #1 is slated for release on May 7, 2025, perfectly timed with this year's Star Wars Day celebrations.
Marvel isn't stopping there; in February, they will also launch Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, delving into Kylo Ren's journey following the events of The Last Jedi.
