Second Dinner, a studio based in California, developed the popular game Marvel Snap, which is published by Nuverse, a subsidiary of ByteDance. Unfortunately, due to broader app bans that also affected apps like CapCut and Lemon8, Marvel Snap was discontinued on iOS and Android platforms as of January 18, 2025. This sudden unavailability has left many players frustrated, particularly with ongoing authorization issues. However, the game remains accessible to PC players via Steam. The developers at Second Dinner were taken aback by this turn of events and are actively working to bring the game back online. According to an official statement from Platform X:
"Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress."
One of the most frustrating elements of this situation is that players received no prior warning. As a result, many continued to invest money in in-game purchases, unaware of the impending lockout.
The ban affected not only Marvel Snap but also some other ByteDance apps. However, not all ByteDance games were impacted; for example, Ragnarok X: 3rd Anniversary and Earth: Revival - Deep Underground remain playable.
In other news, Marvel Snap recently introduced Moonstone, an ongoing card that has the potential to shake up the meta. As part of the Ongoing archetype, Moonstone (4/6) can replicate the ongoing effects of your 1, 2, and 3-cost cards at her location. With the current abundance of low-cost Ongoing cards in the game, such as Ant-Man and U.S. Agent, Moonstone's ability to freely adopt these effects can significantly amplify her power, making her a valuable asset in the right deck.
