Marvel Rivals Reverses Mid-Season Rank Reset Decision
Dev Talk 11: Seasonal Rank Adjustments Update
Marvel Rivals has officially walked back its earlier plan to reset player ranks mid-season after widespread community backlash. The change was initially announced in Dev Talk 10, which revealed that players would lose four divisions at the halfway point of the season—roughly every 45 days. This sparked immediate criticism from the player base, with many calling the system demotivating, especially for those actively climbing the competitive ladder.
In response, the developers released Dev Talk 11 just hours later, confirming a complete reversal on the mid-season reset. Players will now retain their rank and score at the end of the first half of the season. However, the standard end-of-season reset will still apply, with all players dropping six divisions when the full season concludes.
This adjustment highlights the development team’s commitment to listening to player concerns and adapting quickly to ensure a fair and rewarding competitive experience.
New Heroes and Seasonal Rewards Still Rolling Out

Despite the reversal on rank resets, other key updates remain on track. The highly anticipated addition of two new playable heroes—Human Torch and The Thing—is still scheduled for release following the mid-season update, bringing the total roster to 39 characters. NetEase Games reaffirmed its promise to introduce two new heroes each season, with seasons lasting approximately three months.
Seasonal rewards for top-tier players remain unchanged. Those who achieved Gold rank or higher by the end of the first half will receive a free Invisible Woman costume. Players ranked Grandmaster and above will be awarded Crests of Honor in recognition of their skill and dedication.
Additionally, new rewards await those who reach Gold rank by the end of the full season, including another exclusive costume and additional Crests of Honor for Grandmaster players and above.
Balance changes are also in the pipeline following the mid-season update, though specific details have not yet been disclosed. Players can expect further tuning to heroes and gameplay mechanics to maintain competitive fairness.
Strong Community Response to Developer Engagement

The speed at which Marvel Rivals responded to player feedback has been widely praised. Within hours of the initial announcement, the team acknowledged concerns and issued a clear, actionable update—demonstrating a strong commitment to community-driven development.
In their official message, the developers stated: "We strive to make Marvel Rivals the best game it can be, and the community is the driving force behind this mission! [...] Your engagement and support mean the world to us, and we're excited to continue this journey together!"
The upcoming mid-season update is set to launch on February 21, 2025. Marvel Rivals is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
