Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle
- $499.99 at Best Buy
Opting for the Switch 2 bundle that includes Super Mario Kart World can save you $30 compared to purchasing the console and game separately. Keep in mind, though, that the bundle comes with a digital copy of the game. If you're a fan of physical copies and willing to spend an extra $30, you might want to consider preordering the standalone game instead.
Yes, the MSRP Is $79.99
When purchased alone, Mario Kart World is priced at $79.99, which is $10 higher than the standard price for AAA PlayStation and Xbox titles this generation. While I'm not thrilled about the price increase between console generations, I understand that game development costs are soaring. Hopefully, the scale and depth of Mario Kart World justify the extra expense.
What Is Mario Kart World?
Mario Kart World is poised to be the most ambitious Mario Kart game to date, featuring an open-world environment reminiscent of the Forza Horizon series. In Grand Prix mode, you can seamlessly transition from the end of one race to the start of another, enhancing the flow of gameplay. The tracks are dynamic, with weather and time of day affecting visibility and traction, adding a layer of realism and strategy to your races. You can explore "virtually everywhere" in the Mushroom Kingdom, with each race accommodating up to 24 drivers, a record for the series.
A new mode called Knockout Tour challenges you to race across the open world, hitting checkpoints with specific placement requirements. Fall behind at a checkpoint, and you're out of the race. For those who prefer a more relaxed experience, Free Roam mode lets you drive anywhere in the world, team up with friends, and capture memorable moments with in-game photography.
Stay tuned for more details on Mario Kart World during the upcoming Nintendo Direct on April 17. In the meantime, check out our hands-on preview for a deeper look into what this game has to offer.
