Hasbro is bringing the world of Magic: The Gathering to the screen, partnering with Legendary Entertainment to create a shared universe spanning movies and television shows. The film adaptation will take priority, according to Legendary’s chairman of worldwide production, who emphasizes their commitment to carefully developing beloved intellectual properties. Legendary’s impressive track record includes films like Dune, the Godzilla franchise (including Godzilla vs. Kong), and Detective Pikachu.
The report suggests the Legendary adaptations may be separate from the previously announced Netflix animated series. However, it's also possible this represents a shift in plans, incorporating the animated series into the larger shared universe.Magic: The Gathering, created by Wizards of the Coast in 1993, has become a globally popular trading card game. Since Wizards of the Coast was acquired by Hasbro in 1999, the company has extensive experience adapting its properties for film, with successful franchises like G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Dungeons & Dragons already under its belt. Hasbro currently has several film projects underway, including new G.I. Joe films, a Power Rangers movie, and even a Beyblade adaptation.
