Tidepool Games has just released a thrilling new fast-paced pixel art game for Android called MageTrain, which draws significant inspiration from the classic Nimble Quest. If you're familiar with that game, MageTrain will feel right at home with its unique blend of Snake, auto-battlers, and roguelike elements.
What’s MageTrain Like?
In MageTrain, you take control of a line of heroes that follow you in a snake-like formation. Each hero autonomously attacks as you navigate through an arena, dodging enemies and obstacles. Your strategic role involves managing the positions of your heroes within the train, as their abilities vary based on their placement. Whether they're leading the charge or supporting from the back, their skills adapt accordingly.
At launch, MageTrain offers nine diverse heroes, one of whom amusingly throws birds. As you progress, you'll explore eight different dungeons, battle against 28 unique enemy types, and unlock 30 skills to enhance your team. Along the way, you'll collect gold and power-ups to aid your journey.
The roguelike nature of MageTrain ensures that no two runs are the same. You'll navigate branching paths, make crucial upgrade choices, and strive to survive as long as possible. This structure echoes the gameplay found in titles like Slay the Spire or FTL, where levels are not fixed, and there’s no option to save your progress. If you make a mistake by crashing into an obstacle or getting overwhelmed by enemies, you'll have to start over from the beginning.
It Isn’t Slow-Paced
The excitement in MageTrain comes from the continuous improvement you experience with each run, even when you don't make it to the end. You'll learn when to play defensively, when to go on the offensive, and when to simply hold on for another half-minute.
MageTrain is now available on Android and is free to play. Head over to the Google Play Store to dive into this engaging new game. And before you go, don't miss our next piece of news on the new game MLB Baseball Strategy Game OOTP Baseball 26 Go!
