Cyberpunk 2077 enthusiasts were once thrilled by the prospect of an ambitious DLC that would take them to space, specifically to the Moon. This exciting expansion, though ultimately shelved, has been brought to light by blogger and dataminer SirMZK, who delved into the game’s code to uncover CD Projekt RED’s grand plans for this cosmic journey.
Within the game's files, SirMZK found references to lunar surface maps and structured zones like the Exterior Movie Set and Drug Lab, along with a rover model. The Moon was envisioned to be a vast expanse, potentially as large as a quarter of Night City, offering an open-world experience that would have taken players beyond the familiar neon-lit streets into a new frontier of gameplay.
A highlight of this proposed DLC was the Crystal Palace, an elite space station. Although it didn't make it into the final release, keen-eyed players can spot the Crystal Palace in one of the game's endings, where V gazes out of a spaceship window. Furthermore, the files revealed a prototype for a zero-gravity bar connected to a cut quest known as "201," which was linked to the Arasaka storyline.
While the Moon DLC remains a distant dream, fans remain hopeful that these innovative ideas might find new life in CD Projekt RED's upcoming project, Orion, set to further expand the Cyberpunk universe. However, there has been no official word from the studio on whether these concepts will be revisited.
Though the Moon DLC never came to fruition, the uncovered details offer a tantalizing glimpse into what could have been—an audacious leap for Cyberpunk 2077 into uncharted space, seamlessly blending space exploration with the game's iconic cyberpunk style.
