Word game enthusiasts have a fresh challenge on their hands with the launch of Letterlike, a roguelike word game that blends the strategic depth of Balatro with the classic word-building fun of Scrabble. This innovative mix of vocabulary prowess and roguelike randomness offers a gaming experience that's truly unique.
Make Words in Letterlike
Letterlike is a roguelike game, meaning each playthrough offers a new set of letters and challenges, all generated procedurally. This results in endless possibilities and endless victories. You begin each game with a selection of letters, and your objective is to form meaningful words, accumulate points, and progress through levels. Each level consists of three rounds.
To advance, you must score enough points by creating high-value words, similar to Scrabble. You have five attempts (or lives) per round, so strategic play is crucial. If you're faced with a challenging set of letters, don't despair. You can discard some, but remember, discards are limited, so choose wisely.
The game also features a rearrange mode, allowing you to drag, drop, shuffle, and manipulate the letters to form the words you need. In the final round of each level, a special ability activates, rendering some letters useless and scoring zero points.
You can use your points and rewards to purchase items that enhance your gameplay. Some buffs are automatically applied, while others are unlocked as you progress. Collecting gems also enables you to acquire powerful upgrades, making subsequent runs smoother and more enjoyable.
Will You Try It?
Letterlike is designed to be simple, minimalist, yet engaging. The game allows you to replay specific runs with friends using shared seeds. For example, if you encounter a particularly tricky letter combination, you can share it and challenge your friends to tackle it as well!
The game is ad-free and available for a one-time purchase. It can be played offline, and a demo version is available for those curious to try it out. If you're interested, head over to the Google Play Store and give the Letterlike demo a go.
