Fans of the medieval action-RPG, *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2* (KCD 2), can breathe a sigh of relief as developer Warhorse Studios has officially confirmed that the highly anticipated sequel will launch without any digital rights management (DRM) tools. This announcement came directly from Warhorse Studios' PR head, Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, during a recent Twitch showcase, addressing widespread concerns and dispelling rumors about the integration of DRM, particularly Denuvo, into the game.
"The exact situation is that KCD 2 will not have Denuvo in there," Tobias clarified. "It will not have any DRM system at all. We never confirmed it. There were some discussions of course. There was some misalignment, there was some misinformation, but at the end of the day, there won’t be any Denuvo at all."
He further urged the gaming community to put an end to the speculation and cease bombarding the developers with questions about DRM. "With that, I would like you to close the case already. Stop [going under] every post we do asking ‘Is Denuvo in the game?’" Tobias emphasized that unless Warhorse Studios officially announces otherwise, any circulating rumors about KCD 2's use of DRM should be considered untrue.
The apprehension among gamers stems from the known association of DRM, especially Denuvo, with performance issues in video games. Denuvo, which also functions as anti-piracy software, has faced criticism for allegedly rendering games unplayable on some systems, particularly on PC. In response to the backlash, Denuvo product manager Andreas Ullmann has defended the tool, attributing the negative perception to misinformation and confirmation bias within the gaming community, describing the backlash as "very toxic."
Set to release in February 2025, *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2* will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game continues the story of Henry, a blacksmith-in-training, set against the backdrop of Medieval Bohemia. Fans who supported the game's Kickstarter Crowdfunding Campaign with a pledge of at least $200 are eligible to receive a free copy of KCD 2.
