No Nintendo console would be complete without a Zelda game, and the Nintendo Switch 2 is no exception. In a surprising twist revealed during today's Nintendo Direct, we learned that Koei Tecmo is developing a new addition to the Hyrule Warriors series. Titled "Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment," this game serves as a prequel to "Tears of the Kingdom" and is set to launch this winter.
"Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment" dives deep into the ancient history explored in "Tears of the Kingdom." The game focuses on characters from that era, including Zelda, Rauru, Sonia, and other Secret Stone holders. It narrates the untold story of Zelda's time-traveling adventure where she allies with the last Zonai, Rauru, his sister Mineru, and his wife Sonia, to combat Ganondorf's forces.

The trailer showcased the unique abilities of the champions, highlighting Mineru's mech, Zelda's magical prowess, Rauru wielding a distinctive sword-spear, and brief appearances of other Sacred Stone wielders.
This marks the third installment in the Hyrule Warriors series, following the original "Hyrule Warriors" and "Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity." The latter, a prequel to "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild," offered a slightly unexpected narrative twist. We're eager to see if "Age of Imprisonment" will similarly diverge from expectations. "Age of Calamity" earned a stellar 9/10 from us, praised for being "a joy to play and discover" and "a blast from start to finish."
