In the world of Hyper Light Breaker, resources are crucial for progression, and among them, Golden Rations stand out as the rarest and most coveted. These precious resources are essential for unlocking some of the game's most significant upgrades.
Hyper Light Breaker, like many roguelike games, can be a bit cryptic about its resources and materials. While exploration and trial-and-error can eventually reveal these secrets, knowing where to find Golden Rations can save you a lot of time and frustration.
Where to Get Golden Rations
In the early access version of Hyper Light Breaker, there are primarily two ways to acquire Golden Rations: through exploration and cycle resets. During your runs, keep an eye out for chest icons on the map. These chests often contain various resources that can be used for purchases or unlocking upgrades, and you might just stumble upon Golden Rations. You'll recognize a chest with Golden Rations by the distinctive Golden Ration icon displayed above it.
Areas marked with Prisms, symbolized by a golden diamond icon on the map, are more likely to have chests containing Golden Rations nearby.
The second method involves waiting for or forcing a cycle reset. In Hyper Light Breaker, a cycle represents each instance of the Overgrowth and resets when your Rez count hits zero. Upon exhausting your revives, you'll have the option to either retry the map, which costs resources, or reset the cycle entirely at the Cursed Outpost. After a cycle reset, you'll be scored, and achieving a high enough rank can reward you with Golden Rations.
What are Golden Rations For?
Golden Rations are a key material in Hyper Light Breaker, vital for advancing your gameplay. They're primarily used at your home base to unlock permanent upgrades for your characters or to access new services from vendors.
Moreover, Golden Rations are essential for unlocking Sycoms, which are pivotal in defining your chosen Breaker's stats and core passive ability. Sycoms shape your Breaker's playstyle, making them highly valuable.
When you obtain your first Golden Ration, we strongly recommend using it to purchase the extra medkit upgrade from Pherus Bit. This upgrade can significantly ease future runs, especially considering the game's steep penalties for combat errors.
If you die during a run, you'll retain any resources you've collected. However, your weapons, amps, and perks will suffer one pip's worth of damage, which could lead to their permanent destruction.
