League of Legends is bringing back Hextech Chests in response to fan feedback. Dive in to discover what's in store with the upcoming update and the future of LoL.
League of Legends Reverses Unpopular Changes
Hextech Chests Are Making a Comeback
League of Legends (LoL) is reinstating Hextech Chests following extensive fan feedback. On February 27, 2025, Riot Games shared a detailed developer update on their website, complemented by a video on their YouTube channel.
LoL admitted that recent changes had missed the mark, stating, "Recently, we’ve made a number of changes that didn’t hit the mark for everyone. We’ve been listening to your feedback, and it’s clear that there are areas where we need to adjust."
One significant change fans demanded was the return of Hextech Chests. LoL acknowledged, "It’s clear that for many of you, Hextech Chests weren’t just a way to get stuff, they were an important part of making your time in League feel rewarding. We didn’t fully grasp how much this mattered to you, and that led us to make changes that missed the mark."
Starting with patch 25.05, Hextech Chests will return, allowing players to earn up to 10 chests and keys per act. Eight of these chests will be available through the free pass, with the remaining two obtainable via the Honor system.
Exalted Mordekaiser Delayed and More Fan Feedback Changes
Riot Games also announced a delay for the upcoming Exalted Mordekaiser skin, as the team aims to "take more time to make sure it better delivers on its core fantasy." This delay will affect the entire Exalted skin line, meaning fans won't see a new skin in every Act as initially planned.
Responding to further fan feedback, LoL will replace one non-Prestige skin with 25 Mythic Essence, addressing concerns about the scarcity of Mythic Essence on the paid Pass and the overrepresentation of champions in seasonal themes.
To enhance accessibility, LoL will reduce the Blue Essence cost for all champions by 50% starting with patch 25.05, following recent discussions about blue essence and champion shards.
Additionally, Riot Games has reversed their decision to run Clash less frequently, reinstating a monthly schedule. The March Clash event will feature ARURF, followed by a regular Summoner's Rift Clash in April.
Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop Return
Responding to fan requests, LoL will bring back the Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop. Your Shop is scheduled for patch 25.06, and the Emporium will follow in 25.07.
Riot Games emphasized, "We know getting League to the right place isn’t about just one set of changes. It’s about continually refining and improving the game in ways that make it better. We think today’s updates are an important step, and we’ll keep tracking how these changes feel, talking with all of you about how things are landing, and making adjustments."
With these updates, Riot Games demonstrates a commitment to listening to their fans and adapting the game to meet their expectations. League of Legends remains free-to-play on PC. For the latest updates, visit our League of Legends page.
