The Hermit quest becomes available as you progress through the blacksmith Radovan's quests in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. After successfully locating the lost cart, return to Radovan, who will then express his desire to forge a sword as a wedding gift, initiating the Hermit questline. Before you can interact with the hermit, you'll need to gather information from the villagers in Troskowitz.
Get Information About the Hermit
Begin your investigation at the tavern in Troskowitz by speaking with Innkeeper Betty and exploring all dialogue options. Engage with other villagers to gather more clues. In my playthrough, I found it helpful to talk to the alehouse maid and the general trader.
Talk to Gerda and Stanislav
Your next objective is to converse with Gerda in Troskowitz, who claims to have witnessed the apparition. You can either pay her a small amount of Groschen or pass a dialogue check to extract the necessary information from her. Then, make your way to Apollonia to speak with Stanislav, where you'll need to pass another dialogue check or offer him Groschen.
Gather Evidence
Armed with the information, it's time to collect tangible evidence. Head to the cross mentioned by Gerda and dig the grave to uncover Groschen, documents, and artifacts related to the Knights of the Cross. Remember, you'll need a spade for this task, which you can buy from the general trader in Troskowitz or find for free at cemeteries near settlements.
After examining the documents, proceed to the quest marker in Apollonia to discover a hut and a clearing with a black horse. Inspect the horse for further clues before confronting the hermit.
Talk to the Hermit
Approach the hermit's hut and initiate a conversation. Without evidence, the hermit won't be forthcoming, but with your findings, he'll be more open. Select the following dialogue options:
- "You’re suspicious."
- Exhaust all dialogue options about the clues and evidence.
- "Out with it!"
The hermit, who reveals himself as Konrad rather than Ambrose, will ask you to deliver a cross to a widow named Margaret before he hands over the sword. Visit the cemetery near Apollonia to meet Margaret and complete the Sinful Soul quest by helping her dig a grave for Ambrose. This step is optional, and you can return to Konrad immediately if you prefer.
Help Konrad or Kill Him
Upon returning to the hermit's hut, you'll encounter a group of Crusaders. You have the choice to either assist them in killing Konrad or help Konrad escape. Sneak to the hut, inform Konrad that you've completed the quest, and ask about the sword's location. You can either aid Konrad or kill him; I chose to kill Konrad as it's less challenging, especially with Mutt and the Crusaders on your side. After defeating Konrad, speak with the Crusaders and offer to return the documents for a small sum of Groschen.
Get the Hermit’s Sword
To obtain the hermit's sword, head north of the hermit's hut to locate two tangled oak trees. The sword will be embedded in the ground there. Retrieve it and return to Radovan in Tachov to successfully complete the Hermit quest.
