The iconic Master Chief, the face of the Halo franchise (even if hidden behind a helmet), is a highly sought-after skin in Fortnite. His return to the item shop after a two-year hiatus was met with excitement, but a small detail soured the celebration.
Originally, an exclusive Matte Black style was offered to players who used an Xbox Series S|X. For a considerable period, Epic Games advertised this style as permanently obtainable. The subsequent announcement of its removal, therefore, caused significant backlash.
Some fans believed this action violated legal agreements and even began planning a class-action lawsuit. However, Epic Games quickly reversed its decision within 24 hours. The Matte Black style will now be available to all Master Chief skin owners who play a single game on an Xbox Series S|X.
This appears to be the most prudent course of action. Given the festive Christmas season, such a controversial move would have undoubtedly dampened the holiday spirit for many players.
