Formovie Episode One Hardware Review: Projection Excellence?

Author : Ethan Update:May 25,2025

At Droid Gamers, we're always excited to explore new gadgets, and the Formovie Episode One projector caught our attention with its promise of bringing mobile gaming to a larger screen. Designed for those watching their budget, the Episode One manages to deliver on its promise, despite a few hiccups along the way.

Right out of the box, you'll find the projector, a remote (batteries not included), a power cable, and a manual. While it might not have the substantial feel of pricier models, its lighter weight—coming in at just three pounds—makes it incredibly portable. You can easily take it on the go.

On the connectivity front, the Episode One comes with a limited set of ports: one USB-A, one HDMI, and a single audio jack. This is fairly standard for its price point and should suffice for most users' needs.

Performance-wise, the Episode One holds its own for its cost. With 150 ISO lumens, it's not the brightest projector on the market, and it did struggle a bit under direct sunlight during our tests. However, in darker environments, it performed admirably, as expected.

For the best image quality, we found that the projector needed to be placed at least 10 feet away from the screen. The built-in speaker, while functional, produces a somewhat tinny sound, suggesting that pairing it with an external speaker would enhance the audio experience significantly.

The user interface is a strong point for the Episode One, offering a straightforward setup and ease of use that outshines many more expensive projectors we've tried. Its budget-friendly approach makes it surprisingly user-friendly.

All in all, the Formovie Episode One is an excellent entry-level projector. It may not excel in any one area, but it's a reliable all-rounder that should meet the needs of most casual users perfectly.

*As an added bonus, purchasing an Episode One projector before May 27th comes with a $15/€15 Netflix gift card. Click here to take advantage of this limited-time offer.*
