The 25th anniversary website, launched earlier this year by Square Enix, initially stirred speculation about a potential remake. This excitement was amplified when Square Enix shared a quote on Twitter from the iconic black mage, Vivi.
The latest update features small icons of four out of the eight main characters. Clicking on these icons reveals short descriptions accompanied by new artwork from FF9’s character designer, Toshiyuki Itahana, known for his work on the Crystal Chronicles and Chocobo series. These descriptions provide insights into the characters' roles and objectives within the story.
While nothing has been officially confirmed, the extensive detail Square Enix has put into this anniversary celebration has fans buzzing with anticipation for a major announcement related to the title. For now, FF9 enthusiasts eagerly await further updates on a potential remake.

In addition to the website updates, Square Enix has expanded its 25th anniversary merchandise collection. New items include Garnet’s necklace, a replica of Vivi’s hat, a set of acrylic standees, and more.
Garnet’s Silver Necklace is now open for reservations, with an expected release date of November 15. Priced at around 38,500 yen or approximately $260, it's a must-have for collectors. Vivi’s wearable hat replica is also available for pre-order, set to release on September 6, and costs about 17,600 yen or roughly $120.
The FF9 Acrylic Stand Collection features eight unique designs, sold in blind boxes, adding an element of surprise for fans.
