FF7 Remake Part 3: PS5 Launch Confirmed, Multi-Platform Release Planned
The highly anticipated final installment of the FF7 Remake trilogy will debut on the PlayStation 5, according to producers Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi. This confirmation, shared during a January 23, 2025 interview with 4Gamer, alleviates concerns among PlayStation fans following the staggered releases of previous installments.
Release Date and Development Progress:
While Square Enix remains tight-lipped about a concrete release date, Hamaguchi offered a positive update during a January 23, 2025 Famitsu interview, stating development is progressing smoothly and on schedule. A playable build, confirming the game's direction, was completed by the end of 2024. Kitase also expressed satisfaction with the completed storyline, hinting at a satisfying conclusion for fans.
Timed Exclusivity Expected:
A March 6, 2024 Washington Post report suggests PlayStation secured timed exclusivity for the entire FF7 Remake trilogy. Given the release patterns of previous games (FF7 Remake: one year PS4 exclusive; FF7 Remake Intergrade: six months PS5 exclusive; FF7 Rebirth: timed PS5 exclusivity before PC release), a similar timeframe for FF7 Remake Part 3's PS5 exclusivity is anticipated.
Square Enix's Multi-Platform Shift:
Despite the success of the FF7 Remake series, Square Enix's financial report (March 31, 2024) revealed declining HD title sales. In response, the company announced a strategic shift towards a multi-platform approach, encompassing Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. This suggests FF7 Remake Part 3, after its initial PS5 exclusivity period, will eventually launch on other consoles and PC.
