The Exit 8 has arrived on Android, blending various elements into an intriguing experience. Developed by Kotake Create and published by Playism, this game is available for $3.99. It's a walking simulator with a unique twist, creating an eerie atmosphere that challenges you with every step you take.
A Creepy Walking Adventure
In The Exit 8, you find yourself navigating an endless underground passageway reminiscent of a Japanese metro station. You're trapped in a loop where the tiles, lights, posters, and even a solitary man walking towards you repeatedly appear. The core challenge lies in spotting anomalies—perhaps a poster with an altered graphic, lights flickering excessively, or even a river of blood replacing the floor. The game's mechanics revolve around noticing these subtle changes and reacting quickly.
If you detect something unusual, you must turn back. If not, keep moving forward. The objective is to reach the eighth exit without making any mistakes. This means correctly spotting and reacting to eight consecutive anomalies. Fail, and you'll have to start over.
The Exit 8 Lets You Soak in a Surreal, Unsettling Atmosphere
The game draws inspiration from the concept of liminal spaces and the Backrooms. The setting mirrors real Japanese metro stations, such as Kiyosumi-Shirakawa Station in Tokyo, encapsulating the claustrophobic corridors and repetitive architecture. The Exit 8 encourages you to engage actively with your environment, searching for the smallest details that might indicate danger or a shift in reality. This constant need to question your memory and perception ensures each playthrough feels unique.
Originally released for PC in November 2023, it took Kotake Create approximately nine months to develop The Exit 8. Following its launch, the game achieved 1.4 million downloads worldwide on Steam. Now available on mobile, you can download it from the Google Play Store.
