Paradox Interactive has thrilled fans with the announcement of its latest grand strategy game, Europa Universalis 5. Following a teaser last week, the company behind hits like Cities: Skylines, Crusader Kings, and Stellaris unveiled the new game with a sweeping cinematic trailer. Developed by Paradox Tinto in Barcelona, Spain, the team behind the development of Europa Universalis 4, the game's Steam page is already live, although a release date remains under wraps.
“Challenge your strategic skills over 500 years of history, in Europa Universalis 5, the latest version of the celebrated grand strategy game,” Paradox describes. “Master the arts of war, trade, diplomacy, and government in the largest and most detailed Europa Universalis game ever. Guide the destiny of any of hundreds of nations and societies in a simulated living world of unparalleled depth and complexity.”
Europa Universalis 5 has been in development for over five years, crafted "with the devoted Paradox fan in mind." The team has incorporated over a year of public feedback, emphasizing that player input has been crucial in shaping what they call “the largest and most detailed Europa Universalis game ever made.”
Set to begin at the onset of the Hundred Years’ War in 1337, players will navigate their nations through pivotal historical moments, enriched with a host of new features. Today's reveal highlighted a new, larger map with accurate projection, featuring hundreds of societies. The game introduces a population-based system, along with enhanced production and trade systems, allowing players to develop farms, plantations, and factories or engage in trade with neighboring regions.
The goal is to offer a strategy experience that lets players freely build and manage their nation. Described as a mysterious and “ambitious” project last week, fans had largely anticipated this announcement.
