Elden Ring is slated to launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025.
Nintendo broke the exciting, if not entirely unexpected, news during today's Switch 2 Direct presentation. It remains to be seen how the Switch 2 version of FromSoftware's open-world masterpiece will compare to the editions released on other platforms. However, its feature in the presentation confirms that Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will arrive for Nintendo fans later this year.
Since its debut in February 2022, Elden Ring has become a cultural phenomenon. It sold over 13 million copies in its first month and has reached nearly 29 million to date. Players have defeated bosses using the Nintendo Switch Ring Fit controller, and the game has inspired intensely ambitious speedrunning challenges. The acclaimed Shadow of the Erdtree DLC followed in 2023, and the upcoming cooperative spin-off, Elden Ring: Nightreign, is looking promising based on early public network tests.
In its 10/10 review, IGN stated: "Elden Ring represents a major evolution from the foundation of the Souls series, transplanting its demanding combat into a breathtaking open world that empowers players to forge their own journey." Shadow of the Erdtree also received a 10/10: "Much like the original game, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree redefines the standard for single-player DLC. It distills everything that made the base game a landmark RPG into a tight 20-25 hour experience, delivering phenomenal new challenges for dedicated fans."
FromSoftware has not yet announced a specific release date or detailed how Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will differ from previous versions. You can find a complete recap of all the announcements from today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct here.
