An Elden Ring player, chickensandwich420, has undertaken a unique challenge: battling the notoriously difficult boss, Messmer the Impaler, daily until the release of the upcoming spin-off, Elden Ring: Nightreign. This self-imposed marathon began on December 16th, 2024.
The rules are rigorous: chickensandwich420, playing on NG+7, must defeat Messmer each day using a different weapon and achieving a flawless, no-hit victory. He initially planned a broader FromSoftware boss challenge, but his university studies limited his time.
Messmer, from the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, is known for his brutal difficulty, often requiring dozens, even hundreds, of attempts for even highly skilled players. chickensandwich420's commitment is truly remarkable.
However, there's a caveat. He's set a self-imposed deadline of June 2025. If Nightreign doesn't launch by then, the challenge will conclude, and he'll move on to other games. This means potentially over 160 consecutive Messmer battles. As of this writing, he's on day 23.
Elden Ring: Nightreign, announced at The Game Awards 2024, is a standalone, three-player co-op adventure set within the Elden Ring universe. While a 2025 release is anticipated, FromSoftware's track record suggests potential delays. Whether chickensandwich420 completes his monumental feat before Nightreign's arrival remains to be seen.
