Releases an Animated Short, Featuring a Shiny Ekans and Arbok

On January 29, 2025, Pokémon's official YouTube channel unveiled a delightful animated short to usher in the Lunar New Year and celebrate the Year of the Snake. This charming video showcases a playful encounter between two Ekans dangling from a tree, with one sporting a dazzling Shiny variant. Captivated by its own allure, the Shiny Ekans tumbles onto a nearby Arbok, sparking a series of events that culminates in its evolution. Embraced by its new Arbok companions, the golden Shiny leads them out of the forest, leaving a heartwarming impression.
The video struck a chord with fans, eliciting emotional responses. One viewer poignantly remarked, "Even though we were able to meet, it’s sad to say goodbye," reflecting on the fleeting bond between the two Ekans. Pokémon GO’s Lunar New Year Event

Pokémon GO kicked off its Lunar New Year event on January 9, 2025, as part of the Dual Destiny season, running from December 3, 2024, to March 4, 2025. During this event, players can enjoy an increased encounter rate and higher chances of finding Shiny versions of snake-like Pokémon, including Ekans, Onix, Gyarados, Dratini, Dunsparce, Snivy, and Darumaka. Although Darumaka leans more towards a humanoid appearance, it embodies the spirit of the Daruma doll, symbolizing good luck and perseverance.
The event also features themed Field Research tasks and the opportunity to hatch special 2 km Eggs, which could contain Makuhita, Nosepass, Meditite, Duskull, and Skorupi. Furthermore, a themed Timed Research is available, rewarding players with the elusive Zygarde Cells, essential for transforming Zygarde’s forms.
