EA has recently introduced microtransactions to Skate during its latest alpha test, ahead of an anticipated release date announcement. According to Insider Gaming, Full Circle, the developer behind EA's free-to-play Skate revival, has implemented a virtual currency called San Van Bucks. Players can purchase these bucks with real money to acquire cosmetic items. The purpose is to test and refine Skate's in-game purchase system, ensuring a "positive experience when purchasing items from the Skate store." Full Circle emphasizes the importance of player feedback, stating, "Your feedback will be greatly appreciated in providing a great experience at Early Access launch."
It's worth noting that Full Circle has informed testers that all progress made during the alpha test will be reset before Skate enters early access. However, any purchases made will be converted back into San Van Bucks, which will be available again when early access begins.
Skate's early access is slated for 2025. The game was first announced during EA Play in 2020, described as being in the "very early" stages of development. Since then, Full Circle has engaged the community through closed playtests of early builds and regular updates via their "The Board Room" video series. In 2022, the developer officially named the game 'skate.' and confirmed it would be a free-to-play title available on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
