Players who pre-ordered gained early access to Arrakis starting June 5, but Dune: Awakening officially launched for everyone on June 10. Just hours after release, Funcom's survival MMO had already attracted over 142,000 simultaneous players on Steam—142,050 to be exact.
This impressive player count placed Dune: Awakening as the ninth most-played game on Steam over the past day. With the game’s first official weekend approaching, player numbers are expected to rise, potentially leading to an even higher concurrent peak on Saturday or Sunday.
Before the launch, Funcom announced that the console version of Dune: Awakening is now slated for "sometime in 2026"). We’ve also covered how creative players discovered a way to ride sandworms, despite it not being an official game feature.
Our review of Dune: Awakening is still in progress. Although we’re not ready to give a score and feel the gunplay could use some improvement, our reviewer shared: "Even after 35 hours, I feel like I’m still in the early stages of my Dune: Awakening journey. There are new areas to discover, the main story remains largely unexplored, and I’ve only had a few PvP encounters. With so much left to do, expect an update later this week as I progress toward the endgame."
To help you thrive on Arrakis, we’ve prepared Dune: Awakening resource guides that show you where to locate iron, steel, aluminum, and other materials. New players can explore all available Dune: Awakening classes, and follow our developing Dune: Awakening walkthrough for a detailed, step-by-step story guide.
