Hearthstone is diving back into the wilds of Un’Goro Crater with its latest expansion, The Lost City of Un’Goro, launching on July 8th. While fans may remember Un’Goro from its 2017 debut, this new chapter brings a fresh narrative, updated mechanics, and a wealth of new content that reimagines the prehistoric landscape with deeper lore and strategic gameplay.
What’s Included in The Lost City of Un’Goro?
This expansion introduces 145 new cards, a brand-new keyword mechanic, and the return of beloved gameplay elements. At the heart of it all is an original storyline that follows a daring new expedition into the long-lost city hidden deep within the crater.
The adventure centers on Loh, a curious Tortollan explorer, who leads a team into the uncharted ruins. He’s joined by Elise Starseeker, serving as the expedition’s navigator, and Umbra, a former Tortollan leader, who acts as their guide. However, Loh remains unaware that Umbra harbors her own hidden agenda—one that slowly unravels as the story progresses, adding a layer of intrigue to the campaign.
New Keyword: Kindred
One of the most exciting additions is the introduction of the Kindred keyword. Cards with Kindred gain an enhanced effect if you played a card of the same minion type or the same spell school during your previous turn. This mechanic rewards thoughtful deck-building and turn sequencing, encouraging players to build synergistic strategies that span multiple turns—without triggering in the same turn it's played.
Quests Return to Hearthstone
Legendary Quest cards are back, each class receiving a unique 1-cost Legendary spell that starts in your opening hand. Completing the specific condition listed on the Quest unlocks a powerful reward, adding a long-term strategic element to your matches. These quests return with a fresh twist, integrated seamlessly into the new expansion’s theme.
More Features and Returning Elements
The expansion also includes seven **Story cards** that connect to the original Un’Goro set, offering nostalgic callbacks to past events and characters. These cards provide a narrative bridge, letting players revisit the legacy of the first expedition while uncovering new secrets.
Additionally, six new **Map cards** have been introduced. When played, a Map lets you discover one card from a choice of three. If you play the selected card during the same turn, you’ll also gain one of the two unchosen options. If not, you keep only the card you picked. This mechanic adds a dynamic layer of decision-making, rewarding fast-paced plays and strategic timing.
