In Divinity: Original Sin 2, the Blackroot is one of the most crucial herbs you'll encounter across Rivellon. You'll need it to complete the Miester's Ritual in the fourth act, guided by Miester Siva. To access the Hall of Echoes and gain the Night Vision skill, you must craft a special Ritual Bowl using a ritual bowl, a bloody obsidian lancet, and the Blackroot.
During your first ritual, all the necessary ingredients are conveniently found in Siva's basement. However, each subsequent ritual requires you to source these items yourself. While obtaining a ritual bowl and obsidian lancet is relatively straightforward—you may already have them in your inventory—finding Blackroot can be a bit tricky. If you're struggling to locate it, this guide is here to help.
Venture Into Cloisterwood
Cloisterwood, a dense forest in the northwestern part of Reaper's Coast, is just a short trek north of Driftwood. Once you're deep within the woods, press and hold the left ALT key to highlight all collectibles.
You'll soon notice various herbs, including Blackroots, growing at the base of trees. While you only need one Blackroot for the ritual, it's wise to gather a few extra as a precaution. Although this guide avoids spoilers about the number of times you need to perform the ritual, remember that you can do so each time you earn a Source point.
Cloisterwood Exploration Tips
Cloisterwood is full of hidden secrets, including encounters with two NPCs who can help you gain a Source point each: Hannag and Jahan. The latter is also crucial for advancing Lohse's storyline. Hidden among the ruins, you'll find Eithne, an undead trader. Interact with her and select the "Divine Order" option to embark on a side quest.
Further north in Cloisterwood, you'll discover a pier with the Dead Ferryman NPC, offering passage to Bloodmoon Island. These are just a few of the significant NPCs you can meet in Cloisterwood. The forest holds many more secrets, such as the Wrecker's Cave and the chance to acquire a unique loremaster amulet by conversing with the spirit of a ship captain. If you're exploring Cloisterwood for the first time, take the time to thoroughly investigate the area. It's advisable to steer clear of the crucified witch Alice Alisceon until you reach at least level 15.
